Augusto de Arruda Botelho

Augusto is one of the most admired criminal lawyers in the country, with more than 20 years of experience. He served as the National Secretary of Justice at the Ministry of Justice and Public Security during Flávio Dino’s administration, who is now a Supreme Court Justice.

During this period, he was the President of the National Immigration Council (CNIg) and of the National Committee to Combat Trafficking in Persons (Conatrap), as well as a member of the National Environment Council (Conama), of the Superior Council of Cinema and of the Superior Council of Innovare.

He coordinated the reform of the National Strategy for Combating Corruption and Money Laundering (Enccla) and represented Brazil on several occasions at the United Nations (UN), most notably on the Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ).

Augusto began his career in the office of Márcio Thomaz Bastos, former Minister of Justice, with whom he worked side by side for years.

He holds a specialist degree in Criminal Law from the Faculty of Law of the University of Salamanca (Spain), in Economic Criminal Law from the Faculty of Law of the University of Coimbra (Portugal), and a Bachelor’s degree in Law from Universidade Paulista in 2002.

He is the former president of the Institute for the Defense of the Right to Defense (IDDD), an organization he co-founded. He is also a board member of Innocence Project Brazil and has been a legal advisor to the Federation of Industries of the State of São Paulo (FIESP) and to Human Rights Watch.

Since 2023, he has been a Commander of the Order of Rio Branco.

Ana Carolina Albuquerque de Barros

Master’s degree in Criminal Law from the Faculty of Law of the University of São Paulo (USP).

Post graduate degree in Criminal Procedural Law from the Institute of Economic and European Criminal Law (IDPEE) of the University of Coimbra in partnership with the Brazilian Institute for Criminal Sciences (IBCCRIM).

Law degree from the Faculty of Law of the University of São Paulo (USP).

Specialist degree in Compliance Management from Getulio Vargas Foundation (FGV).

Advisor to the 8th Appeals Chamber of the Ethics and Disciplinary Court of the São Paulo Bar Association (OAB/SP) and former advisor to the 2nd Disciplinary Section of the same Court.

Bruna Alcoléa Zavataro Kwasniewski

Law degree from Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo (PUC/SP). Attended the International Program of the Criminology School of Porto University, Portugal in 2018.

André Antiquera Pereira Lima

Currently attending the Master’s degree program in Criminal Law at the Faculty of Law of the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo (PUC/SP) and member of the research group “Criminal Justice and Policy’s Effectiveness” of the same institution.

Post-graduate degree in Criminal Procedural Law from the Institute of Economic and European Criminal Law (IDPEE) of the University of Coimbra in partnership with the Brazilian Institute of Criminal Sciences (IBCCRIM).

Law degree from the Faculty of Law of the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo (PUC/SP).
